1. For our own internal marketing use. When a user first visits the site we make a note of the referring URL and the date in the form of a cookie. If that user later buys and downloads a product, these details will be recorded as part of the logging process.
2. As part of the Google Adwords "remarketing" scheme. This allows Google to display adverts to a user based on their previous web browsing history. In other words Google may display our adverts as you browse the web because you have previously visited our website. This is different from the standard method of matching Google Adwords where the content of the advert should somehow match the content of the site which displays it. If you have an account with Google, they have options for controlling what adverts they display.
